About Our Partner Families
Habitat for Humanity provides families in need with a hand up, not a hand out. Our program provides lower income families with an opportunity to become homeowners, often for the first time in their lives. Home-ownership instills a sense of pride and new hope in a family. Instead of paying rent, their monthly housing payments are made toward a zero interest mortgage.

Partner families have an annual family income that falls within the 30-50% of the county's median income. Typically this income range would not permit families to qualify for a mortgage through conventional means.

Most applicants are currently paying between $400 and $600 per month in rent for sub-standard and/or over-crowded housing. For most families, these rent payments constitute more than half their monthly income. The average partner family typically has two to six children and many families are single-parent households.

Habitat for Humanity- Delaware County offers these families the opportunity to own a renovated home that is simple, decent and affordable, and completely compliant with local building codes. The mortgage payments are frequently lower than the rent they had been paying.

Habitat for Humanity also offers support and training for the partner families to help them successfully adjust to home-ownership. Besides the training the family receives during the construction of the home, they are also provided with referrals to community resources, access to social services and additional resources.
