Does Habitat for Humanity make a difference in the lives of partner families? Habitat prides itself on the fact that as an organization it does more than build homes. Habitat also helps to build hopes and dreams and futures. Deborah and her family are a good example, they have lived in their Habitat house for several years. She and her five children used to live in a one-bedroom, cramped apartment. Today they live in a more spacious, modern three-bedroom house that includes a front yard and back yard. And how has this affected their lives? Aside from having a more comfortable place in which to live, Deborah says "I couldn't believe it when they chose us to receive the house. In fact, it didn't seem real until we moved in. I was ecstatic and my kids were in awe. I always wanted what was best for my kids. It's been great for them." She feels good about her progress. Deborah has already been in her house long enough to be halfway towards paying off her mortgage. And what about her kids? Today, Deborah and her children will never forget the years that they lived in a real house with lots of space. "They've had so many opportunities to become involved in the community." Deborah's five kids are doing great! Roberto is a high school senior, Ramon is a Boy Scout, and all of her children have been involved in Darby's Little League program. This is one of many success stories that our families have to share. Delaware County Habitat for Humanity has completed 7 homes in the Chester area, and we continue to work with each of these families as they raise their families. We thank the communities and volunteers for their help and support as we continue to provide opportunities for new hopes and dreams for more partner families each year. |
