Habitat for Humanity of Delaware County (HFHDC), a non-profit organization founded on Christian principles, provides a unique opportunity for individuals to put their faith and love into action. We provide safe, decent and affordable housing for struggling low-income families throughout the county. HFHDC is a partnership founded on common ground, bridging differences and creating a real sense of community. We welcome everyone who desires to be a part of this work, regardless of religious preference or background.

The Bible guides our work at HFHDC. Acts 20:35, for example, proclaims that “it is more blessed to give than to receive.” Luke 3:11 tells us that “he that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.” According to I John 3:17, “[i]f anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?’ And James 2:17 explains that “[f]aith, by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”

Houses of faith are some of the most important contributors to the work of HFHDC. There are numerous opportunities for partnerships. They range from sponsoring home repairs and construction projects to inviting our faith relations director to speak to the congregation.

Faith communities derive tangible benefits from partnering with HFHDC.

Those benefits include:

• Helping people to see the spirit of God outside the four walls of the church

• Helping to build the church, since an HFHDC project can spark interest in joining the church

• Bringing energy into the congregation, especially younger members

• Serving as a means for identifying and developing leaders within the church

We invite members of all faith communities to join in our efforts by: (a) applying for HFHDC assistance; (b) volunteering in our office, in our ReStore, on our operating committees, or on our construction sites; and (c) supporting our important mission through a financial contribution. We ask that you keep us in your prayers as we change lives, transform communities, and continue to strengthen Delaware County home by home.
